Review: Five Ways to Fall by K.A. Tucker

Rating: ★★★★★ stars
Date published: June 24th, 2014
Publisher: Atria
Synopsis: Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

What I Thought:

I don't want this series to be over! I was so eager to read this book but I held off as long as I could, knowing this was going to be it. I know we're getting Trent's POV in September, but it's not the same at all. I started this book a little before midnight and finished it at 3 AM. It was so worth it. I miss this series already and hope she will one day choose to revisit it.

Ben, Ben, Ben.  What can I say about him?  If you've read any of the other books in this series you know he's cocky, hot, smart, and a total man whore.  One you'd like to sleep with of course, but a man whore nonetheless.  He's honest about it too, so it makes it hard to hate him for it. Who knew he had such hidden depths and turmoil in his life?  I felt so bad for him and the rest of his family.  I have personal experience with some of what he went through, but that was rough!  And no I won't say more because I don't want to spoil any of the book.  I was so proud of him.  Even with everything he turned out to be a good man.

Reese was just full of surprises.  Her outer appearance didn't completely match her inner personality.  You know the cliche of hard on the outside, but soft on the inside?  Well Reese was sort of like that.  But only when it came to the people she cared about.  I REALLY did not like Jared or Caroline, but as the book progressed I only felt sorry for her and so happy Reese had moved on.  I loved Reese's humor.  She's sarcastic but honest and rarely intentionally mean.  So maybe the cliche is true when it comes to her.  She's got a tongue that'll cut you like a razor but a heart of gold.

The chemistry between Ben and Reese was fantastic.  I was on the edge of my chair when they first came into the same frame and I stayed that way though out the book.  Their first meeting is VERY memorable.  As mentioned above, I read this book in three hours flat.  I couldn't put it down.  I laughed frequently and cried too, but not as much as I laughed.  I really wish this series wasn't ending.  K.A. Tucker has not only won me over with her books but thousands of others as well.  Luckily, you can pick up any book in this series and read it as a stand alone.  If you do, I can promise you'll want to read all the other books too, so you may as well as start at the beginning with Ten Tiny Breaths, followed by One Tiny Lie, and Four Ways to Lose.
