Author Interview, Review, and Giveaway for Manwhore by Katy Evans

I've been a fan of Katy Evan's from the moment I read Real in 2013.  I've loved each of her books and her characters.  I've laughed with them, cried with them, hurt with them, and loved them.  I am beyond delighted to share my thoughts with you on Katy's latest novel, Manwhore, which releases today and to offer an interview and a chance for one US reader to win a copy of the book.

Synopsis

Is it possible to expose Chicago’s hottest player—without getting played?

This is the story I've been waiting for all my life, and its name is Malcolm Kyle Preston Logan Saint. Don’t be fooled by that last name though. There’s nothing holy about the man except the hell his parties raise. The hottest entrepreneur Chicago has ever known, he’s a man’s man with too much money to spend and too many women vying for his attention.

Mysterious. Privileged. Legendary. His entire life he’s been surrounded by the press as they dig for tidbits to see if his fairytale life is for real or all mirrors and social media lies. Since he hit the scene, his secrets have been his and his alone to keep. And that’s where I come in.

Assigned to investigate Saint and reveal his elusive personality, I’m determined to make him the story that will change my career.

But I never imagined he would change my life. Bit by bit, I start to wonder if I'm the one discovering him...or if he's uncovering me.

What happens when the man they call Saint, makes you want to sin?

Author Interview

Thank you, Chanpreet, for having me over at Confessions of a YA and NA Book Addict!  You're very welcome Katy!

1. While writing Manwhore did you use any images or people to help you visualize your characters?

I usually simply “see” my characters in my mind’s eye. But when I do, I always collect images of men who remind me of him. Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pine, Robbie Amell, Scott Eastwood, among other hotties!

2. Was any portion of the story easier to write than the others?

I think the easiest part to write was the club scene, where Malcolm kind of really steps out to mark his territory, a.k.a., Rachel. It was the first scene that came to my mind when I sat down to write the book, and it just really left an impact. From then on, I went on to discover the rest of the story, what happened before, and after, and I loved every minute of it!

3. What made you decide to write this book from the point of view you chose? Would you ever think of writing it from another character's point of view?

In this case, this book was always about Rachel. I wanted to write a book about a normal girl, and how she tackles work, friends, family, her passions, and the unexpected love that she finds in the arms of a renowned player.

4. What would you like to tell readers about Manwhore, especially the Real series fans who can never get enough?

I love you, readers. And every time that I sit down to write and get to a juicy part, I think to myself, “I can’t wait to share this with my readers!” I was so excited when I wrote this story. I fell in love with all these characters and this world, and I hope that when you open the book, you leave an open space in your minds and hearts, just like I had a blank page to start with, and let yourself fall in love the way I did.

5.What five words would you use to describe this book?

Intense, thrilling, sexy, unexpected, modern.

6. What type of environment do you need around you to write?

I need music for sure, music blocks out the real world for me. I also need to be sitting in my comfortable chair, with a cup of tea by my side and my To-Do list tidily checked off so that there's nothing on my plate except my book.

7.What was the last 5 star book you read?

Oh I read an amazing book by Kim Jones, untitled yet, but releasing March 2016. Mesmerizing! I can’t wait for readers to read it.

8. Any favorite books, foods, shows, movies you'd like to share with your readers?

My favorite food beyond anything is dark chocolate. I love romantic movies, and I'm sad that there aren't many romantic movies anymore. Either they’re comedies, or sci-fi or dystopian, but there are very few modern love stories except those from Nicholas Sparks books. I love those, but there aren’t enough to satisfy my hunger for more! I also love the show Vikings, and I love ALL books. I simply love reading. And in all genres. Mostly romance, but sometimes Women's Fiction, Young Adult, and Thrillers too. :)

Thank you so much for inviting me over today!

Thank you Katy for stopping by! Happy publication day!

Review

★★★★★ stars

I have high expectations when it comes to any book by Katy Evans.  She's never let me down yet, and her 5 star streak (for me) continues with Manwhore. She takes the cliched oversexualized man and turns him into one any of us would love to have in our own lives.  She writes with such panache you can't help but fall in love with the characters and their story.

I knew from the first page this book was going to be amazing.  When you fall for your female protagonist in the beginning it ensures you'll feel and maintain that bond through out the book.  I really liked Rachel.  She works hard to support herself and her mother, whom she loves dearly.  I love how she cares for her friends and most importantly, I like how she gives of herself to the community. She's had her life changed by violence and even though her actions may not be huge, she still does things to try and bring awareness and change. She's an adult but she's still innocent in a lot of ways.

Malcolm Saint on the other hand is an adult and he lost his innocence so long ago, he doesn't think he can be surprised. He's broody and moody, and such an enigma.  However Rachel really throws him off balance, from the first time they meet.  Since this book is told exclusively from Rachel's point of view, what I know of Malcolm is through Rachel's eyes and his actions.  Saint might unapologetic about his past or what he wants, but it was clear to me how much he cared for Rachel.  The unrepentant manwhore saw something in Rachel that wanted him to be better and do better, where before ennui had reigned. I loved how he wooed Rachel and how confused she was. I never doubted Malcolm, but I did fear for him and his feelings, especially as he began to open up to Rachel. Betrayal never ends well, even if it doesn't began as a betrayal.

I was captivated by this story.  The book is sweet and yet hot.  The chemistry between Malcolm and Rachel is undeniable. I could almost feel it in the room as I read.  I would suggest keeping a change of underwear handy, just in case.  I can only recall a handful of times I've had a major reaction (outburst) to the ending of a book. I love my e-reader too much, but I've never before wanted to throw it across the room and throw a temper tantrum.  I read blissfully unaware that at the end I'd be frantic for more.  Rachel and Malcolm's story doesn't end with the last page of Manwhore.  There will be more, but the wait until July will be excruciating.
As a fan of Real and all of the books that have followed, I can easily say hardcore fans of Katy's will love this book.  I can also say that this book is quite different from her previous novels, yet holds its own, and stands out.  I expect to see crops of Malcolm fans as more people read this book, just like Remy has his fans.  After all, Malcolm Saint is the man.

*Thank you to the publicist for giving a copy via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for them in any manner.*

    1. I agree. I think it has more to do with the woman they meet that has to do with wanting to change as well as wanting to change themselves.
