Review: Burn Out by Brooklyn Taylor

Rating: ★★★1/2 stars
Date published: November 2nd, 2015
Publisher: self published
Synopsis: Easton Hunter has a one track mind. Drag racing. He doesn’t require anything but the rush of adrenaline while on the race track. His nights are full of women and his days are full of racing. Life is going just as he has planned until a tragedy strikes his family. He is left to pick up the pieces abruptly turning his life as he knows it upside down.

Harper Dunn is finally hitting the big time. Everything that she has ever worked for is falling right into place. She is determined to take the world by surprise. Nothing gives her more satisfaction than proving someone wrong that doubted her, especially of the opposite sex. She has never been in love and isn’t planning on it anytime soon. That is until she meets three year old Samantha Hunter.

As competition gets steep not only on the race track but also in their hearts, they have to decide to take the leap of faith or walk away from the best thing either has ever encountered.

Can Easton and Harper resist temptation when it is standing right in front of them?

Especially when they are car to car on the race track?

Can you handle the speed at 300 MPH?

What I Thought:

I was really intrigued by the premise of this book. I love stories that feature women in roles where they challenge what's "normal" for a female. I was really looking forward to seeing Harper tearing up the track, which she did, but there was more.

I liked Harper. She's a talented driver and racing is all she's ever wanted. I liked how she was determined to be the best driver possible. I even liked how sweet she was. Same goes for Easton. Easton might have been a playboy, but he was a total marshmallow at heart, especially when it came to his niece. I can't tell you how much he made me swoon. The two certainly had chemistry as could be evidenced by their one night stand.

Here's the thing. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was light and quick. There was potential for a lot of angst and while the story showed promise wasn't able to deliver in it. I will also admit to being a little turned off after seeing how quickly hooking up with Easton started messing with Harper and her mindset about racing and being the best.

There were a few moments and even some heavy emotional ones. It was really easy to fall in love with Samantha, Easton's niece and him when he was with her. This is my first book by Brooklyn Taylor and it was nice.  I look forward to checking out more of her books and trying them out.

I currently reside outside of Austin, Texas. I'm a mother of 2 amazing kiddos and married to my gorgeous soulmate for almost 20 years. I have a full time job in the medical field but would rather be spending my time writing! I love to spend my free time reading, being outside and playing with my family and 4 fur babies. I started to write at the instinct of "hey maybe I can do that!" and haven't stopped since. I have enjoyed every step of the journey. I am blessed to have very supportive friends and family that make my life worth living!
