Blog Tour: Excerpt and Review for Ignite (Speed #1 Series) by Kelly Elliott

Happy book birthday to Kelly Elliot! Make sure you check out the excerpt for Ignite! I'm very excited to have a review to share with you today.

 Nov 17, 2015
Synopsis
There were two things Emmit Lewis loved.
Racing cars and Adaline Morgan.
Time was stolen from the two young lovers and Emmit vowed never again would he allow anything to come between the two of them.
Blurred lines both on and off the track have Emmit being tested beyond his limits. Will he reach the checkered flag and ignite Adaline’s heart, or will he be black-flagged and lose everything he has ever dreamed of?

 Excerpt

Opening the door, I smiled. Adaline was standing there with an umbrella over her head as the rain came down steadily. “Hey. I had to ask which one was your bus. You’ve gotten a different one.”
My smile faded some as I nodded. “Yeah, well a lot of things are different now.”
Adaline’s face fell as she asked, “May I come in?”
“Um, yeah but Robert’s here and—”
Robert pushed past me and waved to Adaline. “Hey, Adaline! Great seeing you again. I’m headed back to the hauler, Emmit. See ya later.”
Slowly shaking my head, I shot daggers at my so-called best friend.
Lola barked and Adaline let out a gasp. “Oh, my gosh. There’s a dog!”
“Always were observant, Adaline.”
Adaline shot me a dirty look as she slowly nodded. “Well anyway, I’m sorry Robert ran off. I’ll let him know he can come back.”
Adaline turned and walked off as I squeezed my eyes shut and cursed under my breath. “Fuck!” I hissed through my teeth. Stepping out into the rain, I called for her. “Adaline, wait. I’m sorry, if you want to come in, you’re more than welcome to.”
Turning around slowly, Adaline raised an eyebrow. “Anyone else in there?”
didn’t even care I was getting wet. “Like who?” I asked with a confused look.
With a shrug, Adaline walked back over to me and started up the steps as I stepped back in and told Lola to sit. Adaline stepped into my bus and looked around as her eyes widened in surprise as she glanced back toward the bedroom. “Oh, I don’t know, Cookie maybe?”
Holy living hell. Adaline was jealous.

Review

★★  stars

I absolutely adore second chance love stories. When you combine that with a form of sports and my desire to read them becomes immediate. I'd read Kelly Elliott before and knew she wrote a fair amount of angst so I was braced for a story that had dramatic turns. Emmit and Adaline were childhood sweethearts and the love they had for each other was strong and true. Until their dreams for the future differed and they parted ways.

It was very easy to understand and accept why Adaline and Emmit broke up. I hated that they were apart, but I applauded Adaline for pursuing her dreams too. I liked how determined they both were to achieve their goals. Granted Emmit was a bit hot headed, but his heart for the most part was in the right place. There was a moment when I wanted to knock him out for something he intended to do, but thankfully that urge passed quickly. I also didn't like how he at critical times he let his heart over take his emotions, especially while racing. It can be really dangerous when you're mind isn't focused and there were moments when I feared for his safety. I even enjoyed Emmit's rivalry with another hotshot driver. I can't wait to read Adrenaline and find out more about Malcolm and what's happened to him in the past.

I really loved how understanding Adaline was of everything that had happened with Emmit while she was out of the picture. She showed great maturity, something I don't know I'd be able to do myself if I was in her shoes. I really lulled myself into a false sense of security with how quickly Adaline and Emmit reconnected emotionally. I wasn't thinking there was more to come when obviously there was. The suspense aspect of the book was done really well. I wasn't thinking about all the possible culprits, just one, so when the identity of the crazed stalker was revealed I was taken by surprise. The possibility that it might be them didn't come to until very near the end.

All in all, I'd say this book was one I enjoyed. While I wasn't on edge, I was fully engaged with the book and what was happening. I think Kelly Elliott did a fantastic job at combining true love a second time with romantic suspense. I also loved how she included information about racing. The track was not just a setting or a back drop, but I learned a lot about racing itself. If you're looking for a story that's equally parts heart racing and sweet, this book is one you should check out!
