This book definitely made me pause for thought!  Read on to find out why and make sure you enter the fabulous giveaways!

Love and Other Theories
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: December 31st 2014

Synopsis:

If you want more, you have to give less.

That’s the secret to dating in high school. By giving as little as they expect to get in return, seventeen-year-old Aubrey Housing and her three best friends have made it to the second semester of their senior year heartbreak-free. And it’s all thanks to a few simple rules: don’t commit, don’t be needy, and don’t give away your heart.

So when smoking-hot Nathan Diggs transfers to Lincoln High, it shouldn’t be a big deal. At least that’s what Aubrey tells herself. But Nathan’s new-boy charm, his kindness, and his disarming honesty throw Aubrey off her game and put her in danger of breaking the most important rule of all: Don’t fall in love.

REVIEW:
★★★★ stars

I'm not going to lie, I thought this book was going to be a light, "fluffy" read, but instead the story was darker and more insightful than expected.  I also wasn't disappointed by this discovery.  Instead, I found myself fascinated with the characters and what was going on in their lives.

I really liked Aubrey. She's gotten into the top college of her choice and is now looking forward to enjoying her senior year.  The perfect opportunity arises with the arrival of a new boy Nathan, who just happens to be hot.  She's not looking for anything lasting, but then again she thinks she's prepared to fend off heartbreak.  I thought the philosophies Aubrey and her three besties had adopted when it came to high school relationships was a very unique way to look at relationships.  It seemed mature and yet limiting at the same time.

There were a number of plot twists I didn't see coming, although I probably would've if I wasn't so engrossed in the book.  There was lots of drama and it seemed like so much could've been avoided if the characters had just talked to each other as opposed to ignoring things. The end took me by surprise, but I liked how mature it was. It almost seemed too mature, especially considering it involved teenage girls.  The characters really took me back to high school.  I could relate to how together they looked, when on the inside they were really insecure.

Alexis Bass has written a book that made my heart race at possible betrayals by Aubrey's inner circle.  I loved seeing Aubrey have so many revelations and seeing how different she was from the person I met at the beginning of the story.  She truly underwent a figurative transformation.  I can't wait to see how Alexis follows this novel with her next book.
