(Inevitability #1)

Publication date: September 7th 2014

Genres: New Adult, Romance, Suspense

Synopsis:
The day my life took an inevitable detour things got a little crazy.
My name is Essalin Brant, but everyone calls me Essa. I attend a small college in a tiny town, and in my twenty-two years of life I’ve never even traveled outside the state of Pennsylvania. You could say my life is pretty boring. I live by the rules. I’m a good girl and nothing exciting ever happens.

But that’s all about to change.

Enter Farren Shaw. Not only is he older and intimidating, but he’s more sure of himself than any 29-year-old man has a right to be. Did I mention that he’s drop-dead gorgeous? Well, he is. He also happens to be my best friend Haven’s brother. And I would be content with just fantasizing about Farren from afar, but when Haven suddenly goes missing, her gorgeous brother is the only one who believes me when I say she was abducted, even though all signs seem to suggest Haven left town willingly.

I know better, though. As does Farren. So when he asks me to accompany him to search for his sister, I accept.

That’s when the real adventure begins.

Our quest to find Haven takes us across the country. And throughout the time we spend together, I find myself falling for Farren . . . falling hard. He's everything I’ve ever wanted. But is he really someone I should fear?

Because aside from making me feel things I’ve never felt before, Farren is hiding something. Something big. What could this stunning man be keeping from me? And why? Is Haven’s disappearance somehow connected to his mysterious job?

All I know is that things are about to get real.

Welcome to the Inevitable Detour that has become my life.

 Top 10 List

"I'd like to know the top 10 "Oh Lord" moments S.R. Grey had when writing this book.  They could be moments when she was stumped, the characters didn't do what she wanted, happy moments, sad moments, just basically ten moments that stick out in her memory.

Top 10 “Oh Lord” Moments while writing Inevitable Detour

1)      When Haven, Essa’s best friend, is kidnapped.
2)      When Farren shows up at Essa’s apartment unannounced. Scary…but then sexy.
3)      When Essa first realizes Farren is as attracted to her as she is to him.
4)      The first kiss!
5)      The first more-than-a-kiss moment.
6)      Time spent at the Blue Cactus Inn. *swoon*
7)      The Incident at Dawson’s estate. Ugh. Hardest to write.
8)      Reuniting with Haven (for both Essa and Farren). *wipes tear*
9)      Reveal of who Mr. Barnes really is. OH LORD!
10)   The last page!

Not people, but I did use places I’ve been to before as some of the settings.

Three months for the first draft, then two months of editing.

    5.  What is the title of the last book you read?

Review

★★★★ stars

There was quite a bit that attracted me to this book.  I love best friend's older brother romances.  I was also intrigued by the disappearance aspect.  What I read didn't disappoint.  The story was full of twists and turns and lots of romance.

I guess I wasn't expecting the seriousness of the story material.  I saw the warning given in the blurb and thought I was prepared.  I've read quite a few books in this vein recently and they were treated with a certain gravitas.  This story didn't have that same feeling.  It wasn't taken lightly, but I felt sort of like I was viewing the situation from afar. I guess that had to do with the fact it was told from Essa's point of view.  She was there, but not really where all the action was going on. There were some really tense moments in the book that had me on the edge of my seat.  There were others where I was fanning myself from the heat Essa and Farren gave off each other.  I'm glad Essa found herself and her voice, and broke out of what she considered to be her boring life.  I'm guessing she wasn't hoping for adventure afterwards!

It felt like I read the book very quickly from start to end and while the book does end on sort of a cliffhanger, I wasn't upset about it.  I'm looking forward to learning more about Farren and seeing how he and Essa are doing.  I'm guessing Haven's story will be darker because she went through so much.  In fact I'm hoping S.R. Grey will write a story for her.  This is my first book by her and I look forward to reading more in the future.
