FAIR GAME (The Rules Series, Book 1) May 12, 2015

Bad enough Jade Frost's boyfriend drags her to a boring poker game. Even worse that he actually threw her into the betting pot during an intense round...and lost. Talk about the perfect excuse for Jade to make him her ex-boyfriend.

Now she supposedly belongs to the ultra rich, extremely gorgeous Shep Prescott. He could have anything he wants yet he seems to be in hot pursuit of her. No matter how rude, how snarky, how impossible she acts, it doesn't stop him. More like her horrible behavior seems to make him want her more.

When she finds herself starting to fall for him, Jade's confused. There's more to Shep than the carefree rich charmer he portrays. No way could he want a serious relationship with her...or could he?

Review
★★★★★ stars

I love books featuring strong characters.  Jade and Shep have very strong personalities.  Jade has no verbal filter and is contrary.  She's stubborn and hard working. She comes off as being confident and strong, yet has insecurities like everyone else. She's very endearing and the same goes for Shep. She poses a challenge to him who is used to everyone liking him and wanting something from him.  Shep is also confident and cocky, maybe a little too much, but there's something about Jade that makes him want to take his time and get to know her.

The relationship between them is definitely interesting. Jade is a serial monogamist.  She's into long term relationships while Shep has a rule, one and done. Seeing them clash was lots of fun. There was lots and lots of verbal sparring and the tension between them was off the charts. I have to say it was the "will they, won't they" that really kept me on my toes. It was also really hot.  I never knew what was going to happen with them. I have no idea how Shep lasted so long. For someone who was the campus man-slut, he sure was different when it came to Jade. He really wooed her, even if he didn't know that's what he was doing. It was really sweet and romantic.

I really liked the both of them. I loved how strong Jade was in knowing what she wanted. There aren't many 19 year old girls like that. However there was this one scene that really threw me off.  She seemed at ease doing something that seemed completely out of character for her, that I had to put the book down for a moment. It was the only time I got really frustrated and the only time I stopped reading. It really frustrated me that she'd possibly do something to be friendly and under peer pressure. Thankfully it was a brief lapse in judgement and I'm sure many of you will have the same, "What the?" moment I had. I also wish there'd been a better resolution with Shep's parents and Jade's mother. Other than that the book was wonderful.

I'm really loving this new series.  The characters are well written, the story is fantastic, the tension is great, and I can't wait to read about Gabriel and Tristan falling off their relationship high horses. Monica Murphy really out did herself with this book and it shows in every page and word. She snagged my attention from the first page and kept it through the last one. I will eagerly be awaiting the next book!

SLOW PLAY (Book 3) November 3, 2015
Newly broke girl Alexandria Asher just wants to live a normal life. After her parents are sent to prison on embezzlement charges, she enrolls in college under her mother’s maiden name and tries her best to pretend she’s someone else.

Tristan Chadwick is everything Alex is trying to avoid. A seemingly egotistical, lazy, rich jerk, she dumps her beer on his head when he comes on to her one night at a party. This only spurs Tristan into action. He loves nothing more than a challenge. And the beautiful Alex is exactly the type of challenge that intrigues him.

Despite her reluctance, Alex finds herself quickly involved with Tristan. Underneath that playboy exterior is a good guy, a sweet and sexy guy who she is undoubtedly falling for. What they both don’t realize is the actions of Alex’s parents are the reason for so much tragedy in Tristan’s family. And when Tristan discovers who Alex and her family really is, can he forgive and forget?
