I'd like to thank Penny Reid for making the final installment of Elements of Chemistry so frickin' amazing! I know she said it would have a HEA but I had no clue what direction the story was going in until almost the very end, especially with all of the new elements and characters introduced in this part. I felt like I was on tenterhooks as I read it from cover to cover.

When it comes to Penny's books the only speed I have when it comes to reading is devour. I couldn't read slow if my life depended on it. Of course the way Penny sets up the story, it's impossible to slow down.  There are new developments coming at you frequently and since I've been emotionally invested in Kaitlyn and Martin from the very first page of this series, it's even more difficult for me to step back. I felt their success and failures very personally. I was astonished by the change in both Kaitlyn and Martin's personas after being apart for a significant period of time. I really felt like both of them had retreated into themselves. My heart hurt for the both of them.

I loved seeing them tentatively make progress in being civil and friends again. I wanted them to work everything out and get back the magic they had during that week on the island, before reality intruded.  It seemed like a really tall order, but I underestimated both Kaitlyn and Martin.  Kaitlyn had to find her fire again and I understood her need to protect herself from further heartbreak. The same goes for Martin.  Both of them were reserved to begin with, but Kaitlyn was more adventurous of the two and frequently stepped out of her comfort zone.  This last installment in Kaitlyn and Martin's story was different from the previous two, but it was still as good.

I'm a little saddened by the fact Kaitlyn and Martin's story has come to an end.  Thankfully, Penny has confirmed the series will continue with characters we meet in this book.  That gives me hope I'll see these two again.  Often times an author has a difficult time crossing genres, but as Penny Reid has proven, she's not one of them.  Her writing is touching, seamless, and entrancing. You won't even realize you're hooked and the intense feelings her words evoke remain with you long after you've finished reading.

*Thank you to the publicist for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for them in any manner.*

About Penny Reid
Author-Photo-Penny-Reid-300x300SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing). By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
