Leaning my chair back on its two rear legs, I couldn’t help but laugh again before trying to contain myself. This chick and her soft demeanor were all business. Of course, she would be. Who else would work on Christmas Eve? I was pretty certain she could have made me wait until the day after Christmas to post bond, but here she was defending the public on the most holy night of the year.
Add a big heart to the brain, tits, and long legs I’d already noted in her plus column. Maybe I didn’t want to bang her, but rather cherish this sweet thing? The reality of that seemed slim, seeing as the smart, good girls didn’t go for me. Nor did I expect them to. I was the bad boy, and I had the guilty conscience to back that notion right the fuck up.
“Of course, Ms. Road. It’s Jake, by the way. Just J-A-K-E. Full name is J-A-S-O-N, but I haven’t been called that in twenty years.” I mocked her spelling with my very own rendition, teasing the schoolgirl, looking for a reaction like I was in the third grade. “So, let’s get down to brass tacks and get my ass outta here so you can head home to your . . . husband? Boyfriend? He must be waiting for a gem like you to come home to start the holiday, right?”
No harm in trying.
As I spoke, she narrowed her eyes and glared daggers at me. “Are you done with probing into my personal life, interrogating me? I’m pretty sure I’m not the one in jail.”
Obviously annoyed, she followed that volley with another few leg switches. Left over right, right over left. I wanted to grab her knees and spread her limbs and dive in, let my tongue dig deep into her folds, make her let go of all that stuck-up bullshit she had going on while screaming my name. She probably tasted like sweet honey.

I loved reading about Lane, Jake's twin brother in Redemption Lane. Jake played a significant role in that book, and I was sort of torn when it came to Jake. My thoughts on him changed as the reason behind Jake's behavior was revealed. My heart was broken for him. I knew he could find happiness for himself if only he could forgive himself for matters beyond his control. When Rachel announced Jake was getting his own book, I was over the moon with joy. I couldn't wait to see what kind of girl would win Jake. After all he was a man who needed to woo no-one and wasn't really the settling down type.
Jake really surprised me. He was still the rough around the edges ladies man I remembered, but he was calmer too. It was obvious to me that Jake had done some growing up even if he wasn't as well adjusted as he could be. I liked seeing him with his family, especially his brother and sister-in-law. I really liked how he stood up for his friends and I loved seeing him fall in love with Aly.
I really liked Aly. She's this intelligent, hard-working civil servant. She's worked hard and put herself through law school and is now a public defender. She could be making the big bucks working elsewhere, but this job satisfies her morally so she's happy where she is. I could relate to her insecurities of outwardly appearing cool and collected, while inward often feeling inadequate and insecure. After all, even though Aly is put together now, she came from very humble beginnings and hasn't been able to see past those.
Jake and Aly together were scorching hot. They really lit up the pages. I loved seeing Jake go slow with Aly. You could tell from the beginning even though the attraction was there on both sides, he was in it for the long haul. There was no hesitation when it came from him. Aly had all the power in their relationship and even when Aly would've preferred Jake to be gone, he stayed by her. I really loved him for that.
Jake and Aly's story is a very interesting one. It's fast paced and told from both their points of view. It's also not the typical story featuring a bad boy with a good girl, or a guy finding a way to love and live with his horrible past. There's a mystery of sorts going on that really took me by surprise, especially with how it impacted Jake and Aly's relationship. I'm pretty sure I was in shock the last 25% of the book. Rachel Blaufeld totally made the wait for this book worth it. The story is shocking, thrilling, and so hot. It'll capture your attention from the first page and not let it go until the last page. While I would love to see more Jake, Aly, Lane, and Bess in the future, I'm going to need some time just to make sure I'm ready for whatever story Rachel Blaufeld shares with us next.
