Synopsis

He’s the player of all players…

Newly broke girl Alexandria Asher just wants to live a normal life. After her parents are sent to prison on embezzlement charges, she enrolls in college under her mother’s maiden name and tries her best to pretend she’s someone else.

Tristan Prescott is everything Alex is trying to avoid. A seemingly egotistical, lazy, rich jerk, she dumps her beer on his head when he comes on to her one night at a party. This only spurs Tristan into action. He loves nothing more than a challenge. And the beautiful Alex is exactly the type of challenge that intrigues him.

Despite her reluctance, Alex finds herself quickly involved with Tristan. Underneath that playboy exterior is a good guy, a sweet and sexy guy who she is undoubtedly falling for. What they both don’t realize is the actions of Alex’s parents are the reason for so much tragedy in Tristan’s family. And when Tristan discovers who Alex and her family really is, can he forgive and forget?

Review

★★★★ 1/2 stars

I've been waiting for Tristan Prescott to fall in love from the first time I met him in Fair Game. He really made things rough for both his cousin Shep and friend Gabe when they were falling in love. I knew watching Tristan fall from his pedestal as the last manwhore from their group was going to be satisfying and entertaining, but I had no idea how much.

Tristan really is a bad boy, but he's an honest one. He freely admits to being an a-hole, and often acts like one. I loved seeing him rocked by Alexandria. She really threw him off his game and off his axis. The poor man didn't know how to reconcile what he wanted with how to get it. I understood his reasons for not wanting anything serious and I even understood his confusion on how to handle things with Alex. He had some of the best dialogues. I wasn't expecting him to swoon over his words too.

I really liked Alexandria. She's funny, blunt, and sweet. She's working hard to get things done and adapt to a new way of life. I loved her attitude towards her past and her hopes for the future. I really liked how she was a good friend to Kelli. It was very easy to understand why she wanted to be called Alex and not Alexandria. It also made sense why she kept things to her close to her chest and didn't open up to everyone easily. After all she'd been through, it would be hard to have others understand what she'd experienced and why and still be sympathetic.

Tristan and Alex had amazing chemistry. Even when they were trying to avoid each other and not give in to the desire to be around each other, it was strong. I kept expecting them to rip each other's clothes off the moment they finally gave in to everything between them,  but I was surprised there too. While the tension between them kept climbing, the slow and steady progression of their relationship was just what they needed. It was a great way for them to form a strong attachment to each other. And boy were they hot together! I was so eager to find out what was going to happen next because I never knew how Alex and Tristan were going to react. I also laughed a lot. Most of it was as Tristan's expense, but it was still really funny.

I loved seeing Shep, Jade, Gabe, and Lucy. I also loved Kelli and her developing romance as well as her attempts to get Tristan and Alex together. I would've thought there would've been more drama concerning how intertwined their recent pasts were, but surprisingly everything was handled quite maturely and well. I really think Monica Murphy did a fantastic job at giving us characters we could like and understand while giving us the perfect story for Tristan falling in love.
