Brody Markham has endured a nightmare, spending the last five years in prison and losing everything that was dear to him. Now he’s back home, trying to survive in a world he doesn’t recognize anymore. While his family and friends desperately try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from their love.
Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.
Maybe it’s that she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.
While Brody struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.
Review ★★★★ stars
Brody Markham is one hot guy! I had a love/hate relationship with his attitude toward things. One thing I did love was his sense of decency even though I felt it was misplaced at times.. Another was how protective he was of Alyssa. I felt as if Alyssa was a small compact personal tornado with a huge heart. Her antics made me smile and very happy for Brody. Plus their intimate moments both on and off the sheets were hot.
I did go into this book without having read the first one, which I will now correct, and had no problems picking up what was going on and what had happened. I also read through this book very quickly, or so it felt like it. It's fast paced, definitely kept me guessing about what was going to happen next. It was nice to the the other Markham siblings.
Sawyer Bennett has written a book with a combination of heat, intrigue, laughter, and love. I'm very eager to get Casey's story and to see her fall for someone as well as see some more of the Markham men and their women. And by the way, you'll love the end. It made me squeal with happiness! :)
