Book Spotlight and Author Q & A: Never Let You Go by Katy Regnery

I read an absolutely LOVED this book!  It was an unexpected hit with me! I was able to ask Katy Regnery a few questions. Enjoy!

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Date of Publication: 6.12.15

Book Description:

Regret, betrayal, kidnapping, loss, madness, abuse, passion, love.

In this modern retelling of Hansel and Gretel, thirteen-year-old foster children Griselda and Holden escape from their abductor after three years of brutal captivity, and try to cross the Shenandoah River on foot. Tragically, one of them makes it to safety, but the other is left behind.

Ten years later, Griselda’s boyfriend drags her to a fight club grudge match, and her world is turned upside down when she watches Holden step into the ring.

Though the connection between them is fierce, bitter regret, simmering rage, and a tangle of physical and emotional scars lie between them, just as dangerous as the white water of the Shenandoah.

Never Let You Go is a story of fear and hope, defeat and survival, and two people—once profoundly broken—who discover that love is the only thing that can make them whole again.

Author Q&A

Do you have a favorite fairy tale or fable?
I love The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen. I think it’s a really beautiful story with multi-layered lessons: don’t judge someone by the way they look, believe in the power of transformation, believe that there is a spot in the world just for you. I also love a dark horse winning the race…that little gray, ugly, unloved duckling becoming the most beautiful swan in the pond. Isn’t that a terrific happily-ever-after?

What's the name of the last book you read?
I read The Education of Sebastian and The Education of Caroline by Jane Harvey-Berrick. It’s sort of a reverse-Lolita story with Sebastian a teenager and Caroline the 30-year-old married woman who falls in love with him. I often consume books like flame to tinder - you know, read them all in one six-hour sitting. But I read Sebastian and Caroline over the course of two weeks, and I sort of liked being able to spend that time with them. I may try to read a little slower from now on.

What's your favorite thing about writing a book?
I LOVE being able to spend time with characters I’ve created. It’s like a little bubble while you’re writing the book – just you and the characters. It’s safe and creative and you’re completely in control of their decisions and words and touches and looks. Where they go and how they get there. I fall in love with all of my characters to some extent. I fell hard for Holden and Griselda in Never Let You Go. They were like friends to me—real, fleshed-out, profoundly-realized people. I loved writing them, but truth told? It’s really, really hard to say good-bye.
