Tour: The Hooker and the Hermit by L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid

The Hooker and the Hermit by L.H. Cosway, Penny Reid
Publication Date: February 5, 2015

Synopsis:

New York’s Finest February 14, 2015 LADIES AND GENTS! I have an announcement! You know that guy I featured on my blog a few months ago? The really, really hot Irish rugby player who plays the position of ‘hooker’ in the RLI (Rugby League International)? The one with the questionable fashion choices leading me to ask whether he was the lovechild of a leprechaun and a hobbit? The one with the anger management issues and the body of a gladiator and the face of a movie star? Ronan Fitzpatrick? Yeah, that guy.Well, I have a confession to make…

THE HERMIT

Annie Catrel, social media expert extraordinaire at Davidson & Croft Media and clandestine celebrity blogger, can make anyone shine in the court of public opinion. She is the Socialmedialite, anonymous creator of New York’s Finest and the internet’s darling. Virtual reality is Annie’s forte, but actual reality? Not so much.

THE HOOKER

Ronan Fitzpatrick, aka the best hooker the world of rugby has seen in decades, despises the media—social or otherwise. The press has spun a web of lies depicting him as rugby’s wild and reckless bad boy. Suspended from his team, Ronan has come to Manhattan to escape the drama, lay low, fly under the radar. Only, Ronan isn’t easy to overlook, and he can’t escape the notice of the Socialmedialite…

THE PLAN

When Ronan is sent to Davidson & Croft Media to reshape his public image, he never expects to cross paths with shy but beautiful Annie, nor does he expect his fierce attraction to her. He couldn’t be happier when her boss suggests pairing them together. What lengths will Annie take to keep her virtual identity concealed? And what happens when the hooker discovers who the hermit really is? The Hooker and the Hermit is a collaboration between authors L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid, is a full length 100k word novel, and is a standalone.

Review

 ★★★★★ stars

Both Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway write amazing books.  Their stories never fail to make me laugh, cry, and swoon. Penny's stories tend to find a way of dealing with things with mostly humor, while L.H.'s books take a more serious look at things.   The news that the two of them were writing a book together only made me happy. Nothing took that happy feeling away, until I started seeing warnings about this book not being similar to what the authors had written in the past.

I understand why the warnings might have been needed.  When you've got two authors who write differently there's that fear readers won't like what they see because it's different. From the teasers, I was expecting The Hooker and the Hermit to be hot, funny, and romantic.   Luckily for me it was all I had hoped and more.  I am a sucker for the quiet, shy heroines and for heroes who are "bad" boys.  I also love it when their exteriors hide hidden strengths and who they really are.  That meant I was totally in love with Annie and Ronan.  I loved Annie for being terrified of the world but not being able to live without it. She found a way to make sure her social fears didn't keep her from being a productive member of society.  And Ronan. I loved him for taking charge in changing what he didn't like about his life.  I loved him for his attitude.

I only wish there'd been more rugby in this book.  It seemed kind of a let down we didn't, or rather Annie didn't, experience Ronan at his finest.  I would've loved to see him dirty talk to her in the locker room after a match.  I really enjoyed the chemistry Ronan and Annie had. It was wonderful seeing Annie confused by Ronan's interest but then coming to enjoy it.  I liked seeing Ronan have to work to woo a woman.  Another character I really enjoyed was Joan.  She may have been Annie's boss, but she was a woman who knew her employees and even though she let Annie do her thing for the most part, she still played a large role in Annie and Ronan's relationship.  I though of her as a modern day Yoda.

I must say I really liked the way Penny and L.H. handled the various issues in this book.  I found the story to be enchanting and hot and a great blend of their two styles.  It felt like a romantic comedy with substance, which is just what I was expecting.  I think I would've loved this book had it gone in the opposite direction towards darker and more serious. I would love to see another collaboration between these two, featuring other people from this book and seeing Annie and Ronan again, or even new characters.  Collaborations push authors and while I love reading what both Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway write, I love reading new and different material too.  I'd say this effort was a success!

*Thank you to the author for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for them in any manner.*

About Penny Reid
Author-Photo-Penny-Reid-300x300SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing). By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
