What I Thought:
Holy smokes! I thought I knew what I was getting into when I first saw the teasers and excerpts posted for this book. Well I had expectations but, Claire Contreras managed to surpass them and surprise me at the same time. This book was like everything and nothing I expected all at the same time.
Amara is one heck of a woman. I both admired her and pitied her. I admired her for having so much love in her to do what she had to and pitied her for having that much love and having to hurt those she loved too. That love went both ways. It was able to hurt her and she was able to hurt others with it. I admired her gumption to get through the personal hell she was cast in and come out on the other side unscathed. I love that she didn't have a woe-is-me attitude. She wasn't going to be the victim in all of this, even though she was.
There were parts of this book that were really hard for me to read. I mean I was hurt, disgusted, angered, and just experienced so many emotions, but since I wanted to know what was going to happen to Amara I kept reading. Every story comes with both good and bad parts so I just powered through them to find the good parts. In reference to the title, there is more than one devil. It's hard to figure out which person was the most evil. I loved her and Colin and it hurt to watch her have to let him go. The chemistry they had together was explosive and I felt like a satellite stuck in their orbit every time where together.
I must say Colin was a surprise. I really liked him at the beginning of the book, but then things started to change and he really hurt Amara, so my final opinion of him will have to wait until I read the sequel. Yes, the book ends on a cliffhanger and I would love to have the second book in my hands right now. Even though parts of the book were difficult for me to read and enjoy, the story is still very powerful and well written. I couldn't put the book down and was thinking about it long after I finished it. My first Claire Contreras book was fantastic. I can't wait to see what happens to Amara and Colin in The Sinner's Bargain.
