Interview and Review of Crew (Crew #1) by Tijan

CREW by TIJAN
is LIVE! I can't tell you how excited I am for this new book and new series! You don't want to miss my interview with Tijan! Or my review of CREW!

CREW
 YA (1st in series)
 Release Date: August 27
This is 100% a new series from TIJAN. All new characters in the Tijanverse and is intended for mature audiences only.

Summary

To survive where I live, you have two options.
You can be a Normal—a cheerleader, jock, member of the debate team, or on the yearbook committee. You pretend everything is normal.

Or you can be crew.  You insult us? We hurt you.  You hurt us? We really hurt you.  And if you f*ck with us, we will end you.

My name is Bren.  I’m the only female in the Wolf Crew—the best, fiercest, and most dangerous crew there is—and we have a rule: There's no falling in love.

Well… too late.

**Full-length novel. First book in a YA Series. This book is dark, violent, and not for the faint of heart.**

Interview
I was really lucky and got to ask Tijan a few questions about her inspiration for CREW, her current obsessions, and what's coming next! The questions and my responses are in blue, while Tijan's answers are in black.
1) What inspired the story of CREW?
Man. I have no idea. I think the idea is that I wanted to really indulge and write about a group that were so beyond loyal to each other, that they pushed the limit. I don’t want Crews to be looked at like gangs. I didn’t want to go that far, so I tried to rein them in somewhat, but I still wanted the loyalty to be a huge theme in this book.

2) Were you part of a crew/group/clique in high school or college?

Ironically, no. LOL! I was the type who had friends in a whole bunch of groups, but no hard clique to call my own.

3) If you were to cast the TV show or movie of CREW, who would you pick to play the roles?

I’m so lame with this question because I have no idea. It’d depend on who was doing the movie or show, what actors/actresses were available and go from there! IF that ever happened! That’s a huge dream and a huge IF it would happen!!

4) Do you mind sharing your favorite scene from CREW with us?

The end gives me a good chill because I rounded the book to end where it started, and it showed the length of what a crew will do. (Yaaaas! I about near died at that ending! When does book 2 come out again? Lol!)

5) You're a prolific writer, how many books do you work on at a time?
I’m usually working on multiple projects. Like right now, I’m writing one book, editing one book, and promoting one book. I’ve got them in different stages or I feel like I’m being unproductive. Jason makes fun of me because I’m like my family. We’re always working and if we’re not, we go nuts.

6) The covers of your books are amazing! A lot of people pick up books based on covers. I prefer a blurb as opposed to a cover, but I'm not averse to pretty covers either. What attracts you to pick up a book?
Covers!! Blurbs! First chapters. If they all line up to get me interested, I’m hooked.

7) What are you latest obsessions in TV, movies, books?

Amelia Hutchins’ fae series--Omg! Ryder! (OMG YES! I'm in LOVE with this series and Ryder too! Amelia Hutchin's is amazing!)

Movies: The Marvel ones are so good. I heard Veronica Mars is getting a reboot and I’m salivating over that.
(I'm so here for that! Veronica Mars is everything!)

TV: Nothing right now. I kinda stepped back from TV this summer. I’m sure I’ll get into it again in the winter. OOh no. I’m wrong. Riverdale!! Jughead, yes!! (Time for me to go check out Jughead...*ahem* Riverdale!)

8) Co-written books is a very popular trend right now. If you were to write a book with someone else, who would it be and what do you think you would write?

I have no clue! I tend to hear about the darker side of writing with another author and that’s something I’m very wary about.

9) Almost everyone has that one book or more that means a lot to them. What book would you potentially commit a crime to own? And why?
Oh-- I’m not sure. Don’t hate me! I’ve just not thought about this yet.

10) Even though CREW has just released, can you tell us anything about what you're writing right now?

Yes!!

I’ve got Heather Jax’s story coming out this fall too. She’s a character from the Fallen Crest Series. (Ahhhhhhh! *Faints*) Annnnd I’m writing (madly writing right now) a new mafia book!! It’s not connected to my other mafia stories at all. It’s a standalone and I say I’m madly writing it because I started it late when it began pouring out of me and I’ve got about 3 weeks to get as much of it done as possible. I’m a little obsessed with this story too! (Whoop whoop! I love mafia/organized crime books!)
Thank you Tijan!

Review

★★★★  stars

It's always a good sign when you're still thinking about a book 24 hours later and haven't been able to move past it. CREW is phenomenal! Tijan starts this new series with new characters by taking us back to a place many of her long time readers will be familiar with.

Speaking of characters, Bren is one heck of a heroine. She's something else, and I might be a tiny bit in love with her. I mean she's only 17, but she's fierce, loyal to those she loves, and hurting so badly. There were moments when I wanted to cheer her on, and others when I wanted to hug her and offer her words of comfort. I really related to her and I admired her so much. Finding out what made Bren wasn't easy, especially since she guarded herself fiercely. Watching her lower her guards was as nerve-wracking as it was enlightening.

Her crew, the Wolf Crew, is something else. If I'm a little in love with Bren, I'm straight over the moon for Cross. This guy maybe Bren's best friend, but he has her back unconditionally. I was in love with him almost from the beginning. I mean he's there for Bren, and there's something really sexy about that. He was intense, intelligent, focused, and just everything I've come to expect from a Tijan hero. Jordan and Zellman aren't far behind. Each has their moments, but no one is truer to Bren than Cross.

The story itself is a masterpiece. It's full of unexpected twists and reveals, and always kept me on my toes. After all a story by Tijan is not just addictive, but it's enthralling and exciting too! I can't even explain how deep a hold this story got of me. Not only was it unpredictable, but it was well written and ensnared me mind, soul, and body too. I cried while reading the book at times, but I don't see that as a bad thing. I just see it as me being completely invested in the characters and their story.

One of the amazing things about any book Tijan writes, is her excellent development of secondary characters. There is so much potential for more books beyond CREW #2. I must say I both love Tijan and am a tiny bit unhappy with her for how the book ended. I didn't want the book to end and I wasn't expecting that ending at all! I will say that CREW #2 is now one of my most anticipated reads for 2019! I don't doubt it'll be one of yours either, especially after you finish CREW!

About the Author
tijan bio.jpegI didn't begin writing until after undergraduate college. There'd been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can't blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I'm hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.
